President's Message

Dear Weston High School Parents,

On behalf of the Weston High School PTO, I want welcome to you to the start of an unprecedented year.  Our priority and at the top of everyone’s list is keeping our students and staff safe and healthy.  Our board has been hard at work all summer so that we can continue to support parents and teachers within our new parameters.

The PTO plays an important role in our school and community, especially now when there is so much change surrounding our school year.  The monthly PTO meetings are a place for all our high school parents to discuss ideas, share questions, their concerns, listen to topical, informative, and engaging speakers from within and outside of our district, while staying abreast of goings on at the high school.  Given that parents will not be allowed into the school until at least Jan 2021, our monthly zoom meetings, newsletters, and Class Facebook pages will be especially informative & essential. Please visit our website www.westonpspto.org and click on the WHS tab.

We will be opening up membership in all 4 schools PTO soon.  The online membership database will be for all four schools.  You will have the option to order a printed directory as well. Included in your $20 membership, families will receive a free online directory app, direct communication about important PTO, school and class happenings through our e-newsletter, Facebook pages and our website. Due to privacy laws, the school is unable to share family contact information, so registration in the PTO is the only way for us to connect with you.  In the next few days, you will receive a membership registration letter in your inbox.

The WHS PTO is a vibrant organization run by a team of bright, energetic and dedicated volunteers.  We work to keep parents informed and educated about both PTO and school events, act as liaisons between parents and the high school and district administration, support our teachers by providing funding for programming and supplies that fall outside the budget and showing “the love” through luncheons and other special events, arrange speakers on topics relevant to parents of high school age children - the list goes on.

This past spring, our organization’s fundraising efforts were cancelled so we welcome any and all donations.  Despite the loss of this fundraising income, we are committed to being creative and flexible to continue to provide enhancements to the educational experience at WHS and we are grateful for your support. We look forward to sharing with you the numerous opportunities for you to become involved and make a difference in your child’s educational environment.

This year, the PTO will hold its General meetings on the first Friday of every month, beginning at 9:00 a.m., via ZOOM call. A full schedule of meetings is posted on our website. At our meetings, the PTO Executive Board and key chairpeople provide updates on their respective responsibilities including upcoming programming, BOE and school budget progress, fundraising efforts and class events.  We also review and vote on the teachers’ administrators’ philanthropy requests.  Principal Wolak participates in our meetings, sharing current WHS developments.  In addition, we host engaging speakers, both internally and externally sourced, about a wide range of relevant topics.

I, and our entire board, are here to support you and your student, whether you are home or in the classroom. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your thoughts, comments and suggestions for ways the WHS PTO can  serve its members.  I can be reached at 203-227-8417 or janethof@optonline.net

Sincerely,

Janet Hoffman

PTO President 2020-2021

Philanthropy Update

Philanthropy approved the donation of $825 for the purchase of Adonit Note Styluses for teachers in the math science and technology department. Teachers needed good quality styluses to make the most of the iPads provided by the district. This will enable technical drawings and the kind of advanced math annotations that teachers need to be able to produce quickly and clearly when conversing with students during live remote meetings, improving the experience for both teachers and students.

BOE Report

We are now posting the BOE meeting minutes summaries directly on our WHS PTO website.  You can see it as an option of the left side of the site.  We have attached a link here as well.

http://www.westonpspto.org/Page.asp?n=158527&org=westonpspto.org

In addition, the BOE posts its own meeting schedule, agendas, minutes and meeting videos.  It can be found on the Weston Public School website in the Board of Ed section.  Link below:

https://meeting.cabe.org/public/Agency.aspx?PublicAgencyID=47&AgencyTypeID=1

Lastly, at some, but not all, BOE meetings there is an agenda item for "public comment".  This agenda item is actually written statements made by the public that are read at the beginning of the meeting and as such are included in the official record.  The form to submit your comments opens 10 minutes before the start of the meeting. (FYI - The BOE is looking to change this process/timeframe).  I usually write my comments ahead of time so when the form opens I just cut, paste and send!  Link below:
