PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Weston High School Families,

I hope this finds you all well.   As the local community COVID cases are creeping up & with the national numbers looking at a similar upward trend, we hope you will be able to join our Zoom call on Monday November 2 at 9 am with Mark Cooper, Directory of the Westport/Weston Health District as well as members of the WPS COVID-19 Task force.   The WHS PTO usually hosts a speaker after the general meetings on the first Friday of the month but due to the anticipated interest in this topic, we are combining with all four PTOs to host this informative event.  Our regularly scheduled General Board meeting will take place via Zoom on Friday November 6th  from 9-10 am.

Unfortunately, we are unable to hold our annual Election Day Bake Sale due to COVID restrictions but we are able to hold our Thanksgiving/Holiday Pie Sale Fundraiser.  Our chair, Julia Brennan, has found a local vendor who has fabulous options for you. Consider ordering an extra pie for a special teacher, neighbor, or friend (more info coming soon)!

We also have wonderful opportunities for gifting legacy bricks which are placed in the high school courtyard, ordering holiday cards through Minted, shopping through Amazon and FlipGive which will donate proceeds to the WHS PTO.  We do all of this in order to continue to enhance the experience for our students and staff in their quest for social & emotional support and academic excellence.

Our Philanthropy Chair, Laura Schlossberg, is working with videography students to develop a short video showing all of the amazing enhancements the PTO has funded and how they are being enjoyed by your children.

Our Board of Ed chair, Kirstana Esslinger, has been posting detailed summaries of the meetings, with specific attention of those issues affecting WHS students.

Principal Wolak continues to host monthly Q&A calls with parents (next one on Wednesday November 4 at 9 am-see WHS calendar).  We are all looking forward to next steps in the full day hybrid schedule starting on Nov 16.  All four PTO presidents worked together to nominate two additional VDL parent for the School re-opening Task force and meetings continue bi weekly.

Links for call in details, order forms, BOE and general meeting summaries, can all be found on our website www.westonpspto.org, click on the WHS tab.  As always, if there is anything you or your students need, would like to discuss, or on which you would like to have a presentation, please don’t hesitate to reach out anytime.

Stay well,

Janet Hoffman

WHS PTO President

BOE REPORT

In this newsletter we have 3 meeting summaries and updates from the BOE Rep.

 1. 10/19 Regular BOE Meeting

 2. 10/29 BOE Workshop (focused on WPS Outcome and Goals 2020-21)

 3. In addition, there was a BOE Curriculum Committee Meeting held on 10/14 which focused on reviewing the WPS's Inclusion Curriculum which covers K-12.  It is a very comprehensive plan and I encourage all to read at least the overall plan.  There is also an attachment that goes through details specifically for the high school.

Summaries can be found on the WHS PTO page using the link below:

WESTON SCOUTS FUNDRAISER

Dear Weston Community,

We hope this email finds you healthy and well!

Even during these most challenging times, Weston’s Scouting BSA Troop 788 is determined and excited to launch their Annual Holiday Fundraiser. This has been a long-standing and cherished tradition in our town, which has brought joy to the troop and to our community, and one which the Scouts have pledged to continue safely, even amid the backdrop of an ongoing pandemic. Their commitment is admirable!

Again this year, they will be selling premium fresh cut Christmas Trees and hand-made Balsam Wreaths as a service to Weston and as a fundraiser to help defray the cost of their scouting activities throughout the year.

The Scouts will be kicking off their sales on Election Day, Nov. 3rd at the Weston Middle School parking lot. And they will sell again at the Onion Barn and at Lachat Town Farm on weekends after Thanksgiving. You can also place your orders online now at:

www.westontroop788.org

The trees are grown in New Hampshire and fresh cut a few days before they arrive on our lot. Supplies are limited, so please make sure to reserve your trees and wreaths early. We sell out every year and have to finalize orders soon. We’ll have your items tagged and ready to pick up at the Onion Barn after Thanksgiving or we can deliver them to your door for only $10.

Please note that this year, due to availability and supply constraints, if you wish to order a tree larger than 10’ or wreaths sized 36” – 48”, they will need to be pre-ordered. Although the troop will work hard to fulfill your order, they are not able to guarantee delivery. In the event that they can’t deliver your item(s), a refund will be issued.

We thank you in advance for your continued support of the Weston Boy Scout Troop!

Wishing you and your loved ones continued health and happy holidays!

The Weston Boy Scouts
