PTO & SCHOOL NEWS

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello WIS Families,

Happy Friday again!

We are very thankful that Wednesday we had another very successful and dedicated vaccination clinic for Weston staff. Progress is happening once again.

Thank you to everyone who joined our special Sleep Away Camp Presentation this week. Once again we had fabulous turn out and heard from wonderful camps.  A huge thank you to Ilene Richardson for organizing this informative event!  Definitely a change from our in person camp event last year. If sleep away camp is your goal for this year, act fast.  These camps still have “some “availability for this summer.  Definitely check out the zoom video which will be available below.  For those not ready for sleep away camp stay tuned for the Day Camp Presentation next week

We will be having our New Year ‘s Luncheon for teachers and staff soon and we are still collecting donations HERE. Every contribution has been very much appreciated. We are hoping to show our continued appreciation for all they do for our children. Without your support we would not be able to honor our teachers in this special way. Any and every amount counts.

Finally, I’m happy to announce that we will be running the Yearbook Cover Contest again this year.  Please stay tuned as the contest will be announced next week. The contest will run for 30 days. We will be very excited to see the submissions.  When it’s time to go, be creative, be colorful and have fun!!

Once again, if you have any concerns, suggestions or questions please reach out to me.

Have a wonderful weekend!

DAY CAMP INFORMATION EVENT MARCH 16th 9:30AM

Please also mark your calendars for 9:30 am on Tuesday, March 16 for the HES and WIS PTOs virtual camp fair, focusing on day camp and program options.

We will have representatives from many popular local camps, including the Westport/Weston YMCA’s Camp Mahackeno, the Wilton YMCA’s Camp Gordyland, Camp Playland, Earthplace, Ambler Farm, Peak Performance Sports, Weston Parks & Recreation, and Weston Youth Services.

Many camps are filling up at record speed this year and some of our attendees are already posting full sessions in some/all age groups, as well as waitlists.  Please do not view a camp's attendance as an indication of availability for this summer.  We have still chosen to go ahead and include all the camps for informational purposes and for future summers.

Monday, March 22, 2021
6:30pm
Virtual Lecture
Free Event. Registration required. Register here: http://www.eventkeeper.com/mars/xpages/xp_newpopevent.cfm?zeeOrg=WESTON&EventID=6624588&sw=1536

Please join the Weston Historical Society, League of Women Voters of Weston and the Weston Public Library for this special event in honor of Women's History Month.

Inspired by the words of notable African American reformer and political activist, Mary Townsend Seymour, “the work must be done”, the Connecticut Historical Society presents exciting new research about Connecticut’s women of color who worked for women’s suffrage. Professor Brittney Yancy, Assistant Professor of Humanities, Goodwin University and Karen Li Miller, Research Historian from the Connecticut Historical Society will raise up the stories of women such as Mrs. Seymour, Rose Payton, Minnie Glover, Sarah Brown Flemming, and others. The program includes conversation on the importance of having inclusive history. Participants will gain a broader understanding of the role women of color played in the women’s suffrage movement and of the restrictions, stemming from systemic racism, that limited women of color from being more officially involved in the movement. The program aims to inspire community members to engage in additional research on these women.

LACHAT TOWN FARM -INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

In tribute to International Women's Day this week, Lachat Town Farm honored 35 local women who have made a difference in our community, by leading with exceptional courage, strength, and kindness.
