PTO & SCHOOL NEWS

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello WIS Families!

I have great news to share with you! Yearbooks are in!

YEARBOOKS:  Pick up at the Weston Library Friday, September 17 from 9:00am - 12:30pm

For the past 3 years the yearbook has been put together by one person, Daniella Swetland,  and she’s done an amazing job. She recruited help from parents and teachers who submitted photos, tracked people down to get 5th grade baby photos, and sold parent ads. For two years, Daniella was Vice President of the WIS PTO as well as the Yearbook Chair. For the 2020-2021 school year she was President of the WIS PTO and had hoped that someone from the WIS community would step up to take over the yearbook so she could focus on the role of President. The Executive board and Nominating Committee did their best to find a new Yearbook Chair, but we were unsuccessful in our efforts. Daniella took on the challenge of filling both roles with grace, strength and determination.

For the 2021-2022 school year, we do not have a Yearbook Chair yet. Daniella has moved up to WMS as her son is in 6th grade. The yearbook is one of the students favorite ways to remember their time during the school year, acknowledge their hard work, and see all of the smiling faces of their friends. Without a yearbook chair, the program is at risk for not happening. We need your help! We need someone to take on this role, either by yourself or with a friend, to help capture the memories from what we hope will be a great school year. Please let me know immediately if you are interested debbiecarrothers@yahoo.com

COVID UPDATE:

Our students and staff have done an amazing job keeping up with Covid protocols and safety measures. As of 9/15 there is only one student at WIS with a positive case of covid and 3 students are quarantined due to close contact.  We need to remind our children to keep up the good work: wear their masks properly throughout the day, sanitize their hands before eating and changing classrooms, and social distancing.  I know it’s hard.  But reminding your child to wear their mask properly allows for the teachers to teach in person in school. It protects your child from contracting Covid. In the bigger scheme of things it protects those of us with compromised immune systems. So let’s all be on the same team, wear our masks in public properly so our children can have a great school year in person.

General Membership Meeting: 9/22 9:30am

I invite you to join us September 22nd at 9:30am for the combined WIS and Hurbutt PTOs General Membership meeting featuring our new Superintendent Lisa Wolak. We will also hear from our WIS Principal Pattie Falber and Hurlbutt Principal Laura Kaddis. The General Membership meetings are a great way to get first hand information on what goes on inside WIS and Hurlbutt. The meetings will be held via ZOOM this year so it is so easy for you to join us and listen in to the latest happenings.

Thank you for all you do for our children at WIS. With the love and support of parents, caretakers, friends and family, our kids are going to have a great year!

Best Regards
Debbie Carrothers
WIS PTO President 2021-2022
