PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello and Happy Tuesday!

I hope you’ve all had a great start to the week and an enjoyable autumnal weekend!  This weekend was undoubtedly enjoyable for our WHS Students as they celebrated the first Homecoming Dance at Weston High School in over a decade!  I am genuinely in awe of the WHS Student Government for what they have accomplished.  In under two months, they came up with their vision for the Homecoming Dance and planned it from start to finish.  The result was a phenomenal student body turnout, bringing everyone together to have fun and build a priceless sense of community and school spirit!  Well done!  We are all so proud of our students!

Many thanks as well to everyone who helped support their initiative. Through her leadership and positivity, Principal Meghan Ward enabled our students to shine like never before by saying yes to the idea.  Faculty advisors Vincent Madar and Anna Balouskus were the advisors who helped the Student Government steadily navigate through these uncharted territories with ease.  Student Government  Co-Presidents Emma McCarthy and Josh Metviner are absolute stars, demonstrating true leadership skills and care for their fellow students.  They kindly wrote to me over the weekend to thank our PTO for all we did to help them make the Homecoming Dance successful.

Thank you!

  • To the entire PTO for their contribution towards the decorations.

  • To the team of volunteers who sold tickets during the school day on behalf of the SGA.  Special thanks to Lisa Zhang for volunteering to coordinate the volunteers surrounding the Homecoming Dance.

  • To the team of parent volunteers who spent their Saturday afternoon decking out the Gymnasium in preparation for the Dance.

The day before the dance, the PTO held our monthly hybrid meeting at WHS Library and on Zoom.  We were fortunate to host Randi Green, WHS College and Career Counselor as our special guest.  We all learned much about the college process and the high school journey toward graduation.  If you missed it or want to hear it again, the PTO recording is available on our YouTube Channel.  Her presentation begins at about minute 47.  If you have the time, it is worth a watch.  We are so fortunate to have Randi working at WHS in her role.  She is a tremendous resource for our students.

Next month, we have our annual Election Day Bake Sale to look forward to.  Our Bake Sale Chairperson, Carrie Shaffer, will be reaching out soon for bakers and volunteers to sell the goodies.  Please keep an eye out for her communications, and please consider donating some of your favorite recipes!

Spirit Week continues, following its big kick-off with Saturday’s Dance.  I hope you and your families are enjoying the fun days the students have planned.  I am looking forward to enjoying the Homecoming Game this Weekend and the amazing decade-themed floats at halftime.  Hope to see you there!  Go Trojans!

With Warm Regards,

Christine Harris

WHS PTO President

BOE MEETING REPORT

You can read a summary of the September BOE meeting HERE

The last WPS Board of Education (BOE) meeting was hosted on October 17th and can be viewed here.

In our last PTO General Meeting Director of College & Career Counseling Randi Green recommended her all-time favorite book related to the college admissions process:

Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be: An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania  by Frank Bruni

Randi discussed how the book highlights the importance of guiding our children to find the right fit, a place where they can thrive academically, socially, and extracurricularly. As well as an important reminder that attending that one specific name school will not determine our child's outcome; instead, it's what they will put into their college experience as a whole that will make the ultimate difference.
