PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Weston High School Parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed this picture perfect weather weekend to start the fall season!  I began my weekend at the 4 PTO/Weston Youth Services tent at the Lachat Farmers Market Friday night. Good music, good food, great vendors and fabulous neighbors.  And we sold Weston swag!  See the link below in the newsletter in case you missed it - some great stuff to choose from!

2 more weeks in the books and I think the students and staff are getting into a groove. There is also plenty going on in the district for you to catch up on and know about!

     - A big Board of Ed meeting was held on Monday September 20th and it included a presentation of the district's goals for the 2021-22 school year.  You can read the important summary below.

     - Hope you found the first Counseling Newsletter (sent 9/21/21) helpful - they will continue monthly/seasonal throughout the school year.

     - Back to School Night is this Thursday starting at 7 pm.  Be on the lookout for an email from the high school with details!

     - Our next General Board meeting is this Friday October 1st - hope you can join us. In addition to Interim Principal Givoni our guest speaker will be Meredith Starzyk from the Counseling Department.   http://www.westonpspto.org/Page.asp?n=146508&org=westonpspto.org

     - Mark your calendars!   The Homecoming Football game is Friday Oct.22nd.  Should prove to be a fun event with other student activities all Spirit Week!

     - In our Around Town section this week you can read about: a big college fair, breakfast with Superintendent Wolak, "get to know your BOE candidates" for November elections and a new and important town survey!

     - And you KNEW I was going to say it, but if you have friends who have not yet joined the PTO, please encourage them to do so! So much information for us to share throughout the year.  http://www.westonpspto.org/Default.asp?org=westonpspto.org

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or ideas, I can be reached at 203-981-0582 or kristana.esslinger@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Kristana Esslinger

KNOW YOUR CANDIDATES! LOCAL ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 2nd!

Did you know we have big elections this year? Besides the Board of Selectmen, we have many open Board of Education positions!

When I first moved here in 1999 I did not know much about small town government but as the years progressed I learned just how important it is as to who are filling these elected board seats.  Then when I had children enter the school district it became even more important to me especially as it pertains to the Board of Education (BOE). The BOE has a high level of responsibility in Weston as 80% of our town budget is the school budget. In addition to making decisions about the school budget, they are responsible for hiring the WPS Superintendent.  This Superintendent then has responsibility for hiring/managing Central Office Leadership and school Principals and they in turn hire/manage their staff and so forth. They also are instrumental in giving feedback on the curriculum, developing district policies, working with district personnel on our facilities, and improving communications.

The BOE has 7 Board members divided by political affiliation so we end up with a 4/3 Board.  The party with the majority is the Chair and the minority is the Vice-Chair.  This November we happen to have 6 of the 7 spots up for election/re-election.  I thought it would be helpful if our parents had an opportunity to educate themselves about the BOE candidates prior to entering the voting booth on Tues. Nov. 2nd.  The 2 links below will take you to the Republican and Democratic locations for profile information about the BOE candidates (please note you can see profile information for all individuals who will be on the R and D ballot for all Boards).

I hope this is helpful.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE TOWN HOME/BUSINESS FROM HOME SURVEY!

Home Business | Work from Home Survey:

Reminder: Please complete our survey! This survey was developed by the Economic Vitality Committee & Survey Research Committees. This data serves to supplement the information we received from the 2018 survey. Given the influx of new residents and changes in work from home status since Covid, we need to see how this has impacted our community. This data provides information to be used for grants and other ways to support the small business community. We would be most appreciative if you could take a couple of minutes to answer the questions.
