PTO & SCHOOL NEWS

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

To the families who just celebrated Hanukkah, I hope you had a wonderful Hanukkah with your family and friends this year celebrating the festival of lights.

This week I thought I would do something different and share with you a top 5 list. Over Thanksgiving break, my kids and I talked about the things we are thankful for and I thought I’d share a few with you.

Top 5 Reasons to be thankful this holiday season.

  1. Family: This time last year most of us were slowly creeping back in to the world, but still cautious about getting together in large groups. Your family who you were in lockdown with, your parents, grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts, sisters and brothers who whether they live next door, or an ocean apart, they helped keep you sane during the rough days, and maybe drove you a little crazy too. But I hope that you and your family got through it together unscathed. This holiday season, I hope that you and your loved ones are able to get together in safe groups to celebrate the holidays.
  2. Friends: When your family is far away, your friends are there to support you, be there in the good times and in the bad times. Be grateful to the people around you who make you light up as they are who matters most.  I am not just thankful, but grateful for the friends I have in Weston - old and new - who have offered to help with PTO, life, dogs, kids, dinners, a shoulder to cry on, and most of all to laugh the tears away. I encourage you to cherish the friends who will let you cry and who will laugh with until your side hurts.
  3. School: Weston Intermediate School is where our children spend a majority of their day. Learning, growing, and changing right before our eyes. I am so thankful to our teachers and staff for bringing joy to our students, sharing with them the knowledge of the world, helping our children learn and grow and most importantly keep them safe. The PTO is working daily with the staff, teachers and School leadership to grow together and make WIS the best learning environment iit can be.
  4. Activities: I am so thankful that my kids are able to participate in after school sports again! My 3rd grade son played modified flag football with his BFF this fall. They had the best time! It was amazing to watch them grow from barely knowing how to catch a ball, to learning plays and getting touchdowns. So proud of these boys!! We all need something outside of school and family that excites you and gets you moving. I can’t wait to see what these boys are able to accomplish in the future.

A couple housekeeping notes: re-take photos should have gone home this week. Mine captured the tilted half smile that I love so much in my 5th grader.

Membership directories should be heading home in your child’s backpack very very soon.

We do NOT have a WIS PTO General Membership meeting in December. But don’t worry, your executive board and general membership board are hard at working this month to prepare for the new year and spring.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

WIS HOLIDAY DRIVE

Hello WIS Families!

The holidays are quickly approaching and community planning is underway! This year we will be doing a Holiday Drive supporting Weston Social Services. The week of Christmas, Social Services will be providing our families with a fully prepared Holiday meal. Each household will also receive a grocery store gift card and each member of the household will receive a gift card as a " Holiday Gift".

You and your child can help in two ways:

1- Sending your child to school with a gift card to Stop & Shop, Caraluzzi's, Walmart, or Amazon. There is a box in the front hallway for them to place the gift card.

2- By visiting the link below and making a monetary donation towards a Holiday Meal. Monetary Donations can be made thru:

https://www.leagueathletics.com/UserForm.asp?RegID=224989&org=westonpspto.org

We will be accepting donations from December 7th through Monday, December 20th.

Thank you,

Jennifer Rubin

WIS Community Service Chair

Weston Social Services

Our Mission is to promote the physical and mental well-being of all Weston residents through

programming, information, referral, and advocacy. We are available to assist all Weston residents

regardless of financial need. For those residents who need financial assistance, we are available to assist in a number of ways to help them navigate the difficult situation they are experiencing.

Current Statistics:

70 Financial Need Households

Includes 40 senior citizens and 45 children

Our numbers fluctuate up and down as some residents experience brief periods of financial stress

and households come "off and on". The statistics listed above are for our residents in financial

need. Our department assists many other households in Town in various ways that don't meet

our financial need guidelines. Those households are not included in these numbers.
