PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Weston High School Parents,

March is living up to its reputation with Mother Nature in control despite our wishes!

As you all know, the district went "mask optional" beginning Feb 28th.  At the HS, the first day had about a 50/50 split of those wearing masks or not.  At the end of the second week, the number of students wearing masks dropped dramatically.  I am told that overall the transition has gone smoothly.

At our PTO General Board meeting on 3/4, Int. Prin. Givoni gave a detailed review of the "Portrait of the Graduate" which is a 1 credit requirement in the State of CT beginning with the Class of 2023.  Details about a link to the 30 minute video discussion can be found below.  I would highly recommend taking the time to learn more about it.

In case you missed it, there was a presentation followed by a Q&A regarding the future of Weston Public School buildings. This is important information for all of us to keep up on as it will affect the buildings of our current youngest students as well as all of us as tax paying citizens.  Video: https://vimeo.com/westonct (3/2/2022 STEAM Community Conversation)

Coming in April, the WHS PTO will be hosting a viewing and discussion of "Screenagers - the Next Chapter: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience" (about stress, anxiety and depression and impact of screen time). It is targeted to middle school and high school aged students but we will be inviting all schools.

Lastly, in early April we will be finishing up the 3rd quarter so this would be a great time to check-in with your students to see how it is going and how they can end the quarter the best they can!

As always, if you have any ideas, comments or questions, please reach out to me at kristana.esslinger@gmail.com or (203) 981- 0582.

Best,

Kristana

PREP FOR THE ACT OVER THE SAT

Many students have more success raising their scores on the ACT. This is because:

  • the content tends to be closer to a high school's curriculum
  • the science section, doesn't actually cover science -- it focuses on reading and analytical skills
  • the ACT tends to be more teachable and predictable, allowing students to learn its ins and outs

Don't miss this chance to meet your test prep goals and increase your chances of standing out in the college process!

MARCH MADNESS
  • How well do you know Weston High Sports?
  • How about college basketball?
  • Do you know who the tallest WHS team captain is?
  • Or which WHS team has been state champs the past 8 consecutive years?

MARCH MADNESS Trivia Contest is HERE!

Sign up now to play:  Register Here!

It’s only $25 to play and all proceeds will support our Weston athletes.  Spread the word to your friends.  Let’s see the competition heat up!

WESTON HIGH SCHOOL GREEN TEAM

The Weston High School Green Team needs YOU to purchase and plant native trees!

This year, the Green Team is partnering with Tree-Plenish to plant trees to offset our school`s paper usage and to restore our local natural habitat. YOU can help us by purchasing tree saplings for $5 each and spreading the word about our team`s goal. The tree species you can purchase are Pin OakPaper Birch, and Eastern Redbud, all of which are important native varieties that help support key pollinator species.

The seedlings you purchase can be planted at your home or at designated community locations and volunteers will be available to help with the planting of your seedlings. In celebration of Earth Day, our planting event will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2022, and our goal is to plant at least 150 trees throughout our great community.

Order your trees here:

BRICK BY BRICK
CLASS NOTES
SENIOR CLASS
In just a short 4 months, our children will be donning their cap and gowns.  To say the least, our kids have been through a lot over the past 18 months and a lot has been taken away from them. As class reps, we are working hard to make sure their senior year is as memorable as possible. We have been providing monthly “Senior Specials” which will continue throughout the year. On graduation day, we will end our 4 year parent rep term with the post graduation event (fondly known as PGE).

Over the past couple of months, we have been asked over and over….”How can I help?”..to that we say “click here to learn how!”

Thanks to all for your continued support!

Your class reps,

Jen Atsumi, Kristin Brooks, Sam Leuzzi, and Ali Melito
