PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Weston High School Parents,

Believe it or not, next week we begin the start of the 4th quarter! It will be jam packed with activities for our seniors and WHS spring sports is now underway. I even see concerts in the HS calendar!

ICYMI - The last couple of weeks have been busy as well.  Some highlights:

- The Student Government held a fundraiser collecting various goods and supplies to send to Ukraine

- The 4 PTOs provided a small gift to the staff on the 3/21 PD day which was focused on social/emotional issues and mental wellness for both students and staff.  The gift bags contained tea bags, honey sticks, chocolates and a note of appreciation.  They loved them.

- On 3/23 while the juniors were taking the SAT, the 9th and 10th graders held their own programming which was well received.  Details can be found in the Counseling Newsletter sent out last week.

And there is a lot to look forward to as well.  Spring break of course.  And a return to all we love about Memorial Day Weekend! Hopefully Mother Nature will decide to be kind and turn up the temperature soon so we can all get out and about.  I for once am looking forward to cleaning up the gardening beds.

As always, if you have any ideas, comments or questions, please reach out to me at kristana.esslinger@gmail.com or (203) 981- 0582.

Best,

Kristana

WESTON 5K ROAD RACE: IT'S BACK!

We are so excited to say that our annual Weston 5k Road Race is back - in-person!! But we need help to make it a successful event.  See below how you can participate but know that any role you play - big or small - is truly appreciated.

SPED PARENT TALK
DOES YOUR SON PLAY IN WESTON YOUTH LACROSSE?

The Weston High School Boys Lacrosse Team is running a fun fundraiser - a chance for your son and a friend to train with members of the varsity team and reigning Class M State Champs!  See the flyer below for details.

INTIMATE ACT PREP BOOT CAMP OPPORTUNITY

Many students have more success raising their scores on the ACT. This is because:

  • the content tends to be closer to a high school's curriculum
  • the science section, doesn't actually cover science -- it focuses on reading and analytical skills
  • the ACT tends to be more teachable and predictable, allowing students to learn its ins and outs

Don't miss this chance to meet your test prep goals and increase your chances of standing out in the college process!

SPED*NET TO HOLD WEBINAR ON SKILLS TEENS NEED BEFORE GRADUATING

SPED*NET Wilton will host a free webinar about vital executive function skills teens need to learn before graduating from high school and how parents can assist them in developing and implementing helpful strategies. Find out when it is and how to participate, here...

WESTON EDUCATION FOUNDATION SEEKS NOMINATIONS

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of our founding in 1994, the Weston Education Foundation (WEF) established a new teacher award – the Elizabeth W. Stokes Founder’s Award – in 2020.

The Founder’s Award seeks to recognize and reward a teacher who has provided a unique or unusual experience outside the classroom to Weston students as part of the curricular experience. The Founder’s Award is named for Elizabeth W. Stokes, a long-time Weston resident who founded WEF in 1994.

Any Weston student or parent of a Weston student may nominate a teacher for the Founder’s Award, which is a cash gift of $1,000. The deadline for nominations is May 1 of each year.  The recipient will be announced on the anniversary of WEF’s incorporation – September 1.

Full information including nomination criteria and the nomination form may be found here:

WESTON HIGH SCHOOL GREEN TEAM

The Weston High School Green Team needs YOU to purchase and plant native trees!

This year, the Green Team is partnering with Tree-Plenish to plant trees to offset our school`s paper usage and to restore our local natural habitat. YOU can help us by purchasing tree saplings for $5 each and spreading the word about our team`s goal. The tree species you can purchase are Pin OakPaper Birch, and Eastern Redbud, all of which are important native varieties that help support key pollinator species.

The seedlings you purchase can be planted at your home or at designated community locations and volunteers will be available to help with the planting of your seedlings. In celebration of Earth Day, our planting event will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2022, and our goal is to plant at least 150 trees throughout our great community.

Order your trees here:
