PTO & SCHOOL NEWS

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

What a great week!!

The students at WIS had a great time with Author John Patrick Green who discussed his series “Investigators”. If you haven’t read any of his books yet, please take a minute to check out the book your child brought home with them. Every so often he adds in something that only adults will get - like the use of “VOGUE, strike a pose” in his first book.  SO much fun to read!!

PTO MEETING:

Thank you to all that were able to attend our April General Meeting. We had our Literacy and Reading specialists from HES and WIS as our guest speakers. If you weren’t able to join, no worries! The meetings are recorded and can be found HERE.

S.T.E.A.M:

S.T.E.A.M. Please take the time to review the information on the town website discussing the plans for school road. There have been town hall style zoom meetings that are available on the BOE youtube channel discussing the future of school buildings, not only the use, but the renovation or complete new construction. The discussion continues and I encourage you to make your voice heard throughout the process.  Be sure to scroll to the Board of Education section of this email to see more details.

Odyssey of the Mind:

While the Odyssey of the Mind is not a PTO sponsored program this year, there is an amazing group of 4th and 5th graders from WIS  who won second place at the Connecticut State Championship and are on their way to compete in the World Championship competition in May at Iowa State University.   The team of James Bailey, Oscar Egmond, Marren Hersey, Emmett Jones, Maia Lee, Riva Talekar, and Sia Talekar, coached by Michelle Lee, took on a difficult challenge in the state tournament to construct a strong wooden structure within strict limits.  These great kids could really use your support. Please read the article from Weston Today to learn more about their project.  If you are interested in supporting Odyssey of the Mind please visit their GoFundMe page and their silent auction to help them make the trip to Iowa next month.

Movie Night:  Next Friday, April 29th join the WIS and Hurlbutt PTO for a fun movie night featuring Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Movie night is our kick off for Memorial Day weekend!! We will have the WMS and WHS PTO selling snacks and Odyssey of the Mind selling lemonade.

We are also looking for volunteers for the Outdoor Movie. This is a 1 hr. obligation. Please sign up HERE.

Have a great weekend! Hope to see you next Friday at the movies!!

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

Dear WIS Families,

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is from May 2nd through May 6th. It is time to say thank you to our dedicated and hard-working staff and show our gratitude they put forth for our children's education. The WIS PTO hosts an annual week-long of celebrations to provide this small gesture for our staff. As the WIS PTO Staff Appreciation Chair, I am collecting monetary donations to help support this exceptional event for our staff. Please keep in mind this is voluntary, but any donation is greatly appreciated.
