PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Spring is in the air!! I hope it’s here to stay. As we move closer to the end of the school year, your PTO is still hard at work to make sure we have a strong finish to this school year.

Thank you!!! To all of the families who contributed to the funding and success of Teacher Appreciation Week. The teachers and staff were blown away with all of the love they received from WIS families ~ cards, flowers, food trucks, snacks, breakfast and so much more. Thank you to Monica Stromwall for her leadership and hard with her team to make this week special.

WIS/Hurlbutt PTO Movie night:  DATE and LOCATION CHANGE: The new date is May 20th and the location is South House Field at Hurlbutt Elementary School.  Tickets are still available for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Bring your picnic blankets and beach chairs to enjoy a movie under the stars!. We will have the WMS and WHS PTO selling snacks and Odyssey of the Mind selling lemonade and other beverages CASH ONLY!!

 

Memorial Day Fair - Advance Ticket Sales are open:  Advance purchase unlimited ride bracelets are $25 each and only available until May 13th. Advance purchase sales are for Weston families only!! Bracelets are good for one day each. Your advance purchase will be delivered to your child’s classroom by 5/23.

 

Emails: CHECK YOUR INBOX!! Your room parents will be emailing you information on end of year activities for your classrooms and field day.

 

We will be announcing the slate of nominees for the 2022-2023 WIS PTO at the May 18th General Board meeting. We still have open seats for Communications and Yearbook. Yearbook we are seeking a chair, along with 4 committee members to lighten the load - just ask Sarah and Daniella about this role. Thank you to everyone who has served this past year on the WIS PTO Executive board and General board. This amazing team of volunteers has worked so hard this past year to bring back so many of our favorite programs.

 

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our favorite moms, step-moms, honorary moms and mother figures.

WESTON 5K ROAD RACE IT'S BACK! SATURDAY MAY 28th

The Weston Memorial Day 5k is back!! Join us as Weston comes together for this annual community celebration! The 28th Annual Weston 5k is set to run Saturday, May 28th after a 3 year hiatus.  We are all so excited to be back at this fabulous event - in person! Memorial Day Weekend is the highlight of the year in Weston - our fair, a parade, and of course the road race - that brings our community together.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?

There are so many ways for you to participate in this wonderful community event!

- Run or Walk in the 5K!

- Have your kids run in the Kids Run and/or come play in the FunZone with our GIANT inflatable obstacle course!

- Be a Family Sponsor!  A donation of $50 places your family name on our race shirts.

- Volunteer on Race Day! So many easy and fun opportunities to make a difference!

HURLBUTT ELEMENTARY- KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Children who will turn five years of age on or before January 1, 2023 are eligible

to begin kindergarten next fall. Please complete the online registration from the Hurlbutt website. The link to the “New Student Registration 22-23 School Year” is: https://westonps.org/schools/hurlbutt-elementary-school/new-student-registration/  Copy/paste the link into your internet browser to begin the registration process.


To complete your registration, we will need the following:

  • Online registration
  • Proof of Residency:
  • Warranty Deed or Signed/dated lease AND
  • Utility Bill (telephone, gas or electric)
  • Copy of your child's birth certificate
  • Updated CT Health Assessment form, through the 5-year old checkup

This year we have added an option where you can upload the required documents at the end of the online registration before you submit the form.  Without all of these, your child cannot be registered.

LACHAT SPRING SWING DINNER & DANCE

Lachat is holding its first-ever farm-to-table fundraiser on Saturday 14 May!  There will be cocktails, a three-course dinner, dancing and a silent auction, with money raised helping to fund furnishings for a beautiful Nature’s Classroom and Art Studio in the new Offutt Education Center.  There are a limited number of tickets left, so don’t wait any longer and purchase yours here: Lachat Town Farm.

WSTON POLLINATOR PATHWAY

Mark your calendars for the Annual Weston Plant Sale!
Join us Saturday, May 14th from 10am-1pm at the Onion Barn. Choose from your favorite natives, organic veggies and herbs, pollinator friendly annuals and perennials, trees, shrubs and more. 

New this year is a tag sale of gently used garden items. Come shop and have
your garden questions answered by local, expert gardeners. 

The Weston Plant Sale is great for novice and experienced gardeners alike.

Also on site will be Goni’s Gourmet food truck. Grab a bite to eat while you shop!

When you shop our plant sale, proceeds go back to the Weston Garden Club and Weston Pollinator Pathway to fund town garden beautification projects and educational events.

Prior to registration online make sure you have updated your household account for 2021-2022 school year.  Review your family’s household account with your child’s current age, grade, address, phone number, etc.  You will not be able to complete the online registration for any program if you do not do this. 

***SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION***

Registration for our Weston summer camps have begun on www.westonct.gov/parksandrec.   Junior Eagle Day Camp (ages 3 – entering Kind. 2022), Soaring Eagle Day Camp (Ent. grades 1 – 2), Stars Camp (Ent. grs. 3 – 5) and All Stars (Ent. grs. 6 – 8).  Please view flyers on the website for more detailed information.   

 

***SPRING PROGRAMS REGISTRATION***

Registration for the Weston Parks & Recreation spring session has begun on. www.westonct.gov/parksandrec.   We are pleased to offer our programs with various activities.  All programs have limited space.  See our separate brochure on the Town website.  You will also find on our website video tutorials to help with your registration.   Program questions should be directed to Program Director, Joe Parciasepe at 203-222-2675.     

***SPORTS & FITNESS – SPRING***

Have fun while getting exercise in the spring session for grs. 3 – 5 with instructors Dan Ungar and Tom Ehret.  Days/dates:   Mon., April 18th – June 6th, Tues. April 5th – May 31st, Wed., April 20th – June 8th and/or Thurs. May 5th – June 9th.  Fee:   Monday class; 140.00, Tuesday and/or Wednesday classes; $160.00 or Thursday class; $120.00.         

***RUN CLUB***

Enjoy this popular running program with instructor Pascal Butcher.  Students will enjoy speed, agility and distance training.   Day/dates:  Wed., April 20th – June 8th.  Fee:  $160.00


***FIELD HOCKEY – SPRING***

Coach Amanda is back again this spring session for this field hockey program for girls.  Have fun while learning the fundamentals of the sport while having game play.  Day/dates:   Tues., April 19th – June 7th.    Fee:   $170.00.  

***AMERICAN RED CROSS SWIM LESSONS – SPRING***

A spring swim program will be offered.  More information will follow with dates and times. 

***DOG TRAINING CLASSES***

Join Instructor Sally Bovino in our spring session of dog training!  Class is held at the Parks & Recreation Dept. field.   Day/dates:  Saturday, April 30th – May 28th.  Fee:  $165.00.   This is for beginners.  Any questions or to register contact Sally at 203-451-8713 or email gsdgirl236@yahoo.com

***MOUNTAIN BIKING CAMP – BEGINNERS - GRS. 5 – 8***

This is a perfect introduction program for mountain biking.  You will learn starter skills, bike safety checks and go through courses and drills!  Dates: July 11th – July 15th.   Fee:  $360.00.  Llimited space

Join Coaches Rob Hudak and TJ Adams for a week long camp with rides at Huntington Park, Wilton Woods and other locations.  You must have completed at least one session of the Beginner program.   Days/dates:  Monday, July 25th Friday, July 29th.  Time 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Fee:  $360.00.   Limited space.

SUBMISSIONS

  • The WIS PTO newsletter is distributed on Fridays, please send your submissions by the prior Wednesday, 2 pm.
  • It is your responsibility to write and submit your relevant WIS activity each week.
  • All submissions should be either included in the text of your email or attached in Word format and the content should be print-ready (please proofread!). Keep it simple and short.
  • If you have a flyer, please submit a brief write-up along with it in PDF format and we will link it to the newsletter.
  • Please send all necessary links, there will be a click "here" linking to the more detailed information.
  • If you want to re-run a write-up from the previous week, check to see if it requires updating, i.e. changing the wording from  "next week" to "this week", etc.  If so, please make appropriate changes and re-send the revised write-up.
  • All submissions should be sent to: wisptocommunications@westonpspto.org. All will be acknowledged.
  • Submissions should be relevant to WIS and the town of Weston (i.e., town sports programs, Town of Weston sponsored community events or after-school sports programs for students taking place in the Town of Weston). If there is any question regarding the relevance of submission, final approval will be determined by the HES PTO Communications Chair and/or President.
