PTO & SCHOOL NEWS

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Memorial Day Fair this past weekend.  I loved seeing the smiles on everyones faces, hearing the laughter above the roar of the rides, and especially the blue faces from all of the sno-cones and cotton candy!! The team of volunteers who worked in the ticket booth did an amazing job.  Without volunteers, the fair would not have happened. The final numbers are still being calculated, but I believe that we are in a solid position to have a successful and full program for our students in the 2022-2023 school year.

I’d like to thank the Executive Board members for their dedication to service, our students and the mission of the PTO which is to support academic and enrichment programs at WIS for the students and teachers.

Mindy Fierro is leaving the WIS PTO as her son is moving up to WMS next year. Mindy has served as Grade Coordinator for 2 years and Vice President for 1 year. The programming and talent that Mindy brought to the General Membership meetings not only increased our participation, but provided much needed resources for the families of students at WIS. Mindy is always a voice of reason, has inspirational ideas, and has a heart of gold.

Shannon English is not returning to her position as Grade Coordinator for 2022-2023. She took on a large role as the school opened back up and returned many of the programs that were shut down over the last couple of years. I can always count on Shannon’s sensibility when the board had tough decisions to make, and when large and long term projects came her way, there was nothing she couldn’t handle.

I will miss serving with these amazing ladies next school year on the WIS Executive Board, but know that the friendship we have built will last a lifetime.

I am so thankful that we have many returning Executive Board Members; Chris Bryant as the WIS Treasurer, Shannon Seymour as Secretary, Livia Ruggerio as Grade Coordinator, Francesca Grodin as Philanthropy Chair, and Staci Dunbar as Board of Education Chair. If you see any of these dedicated volunteers over the summer, please thank them for all of their hard work.  These wonderful parents are community leaders who believe in supporting our students and teachers, and most importantly are all genuine and caring people.

I’d like to also welcome Mona Shahbazi who is joining the Executive Board as vice President and Jennifer Rubin who will be our Communications Chair.  I look forward to serving with you next year and going great things for our students and teachers at WIS.

Thank you to all of the General Board Members who have brought back so many great programs and strengthened our school community.  For those of you who are moving on - can’t thank you enough for your service!! And welcome to those who are joining the General Membership Board. You’re now apart of a fantastic, energetic, and thoughtful group of volunteers.

Did iI say “Thank you” enough? No? Well, Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! For an amazing year!!! I can’t believe we just have a couple of weeks left in the school year. Keep reading to see what’s coming up next!!

Best Wishes,

Debbie Carrothers

THE 2022-2023 WESTON CALENDAR ART CONTEST HAS BEGUN!!

DEADLINE: June 16, 2022

All Weston students, from Pre-K to 12th grade, are invited to enter the art contest.  Fourteen (14) winners will be selected to appear in the 2022-2023 Weston Schools Wall Calendar.

The artist whose work is selected to appear on the cover will be awarded a $50 VISA gift card!  Two artists selected randomly from the interior monthly pages will receive a $25 VISA gift card each.

Art Contest Guidelines

●       Art should be family-calendar appropriate, including but not limited to that depicting seasons, specific months and holidays – be creative!  We encourage students to submit any artwork that depicts our Weston community as well.

●       Artwork should be produced in a LANDSCAPE format only on 8.5” X 11” white paper.

●       Colorful designs, with less “white space” work best and all mediums including crayons, markers, digital images, photographs, etc. will be considered.

●       Cover art work CAN but does not need to represent Weston & Weston schools as a whole.

●       Art must be submitted with the student’s name, school, and grade clearly marked on the BACK in light pencil.

●       Art may be dropped off in the HES, WIS, WMS, or WHS Main offices in the ‘Calendar Art’ basket.

●       Photographs & digital images of oil paintings, murals, etchings, etc. will be considered.  Files should be emailed to Aimee Drummey at WestonArtCal@gmail.com

●       Please have fun and encourage your friends to participate!

Selection Process

●       Students may submit up to three (3) pieces of artwork, although only one submission per student might be selected to appear in the calendar.

●       Winners will be notified on June 20th and may be asked to participate in a group photo with their work.

●       Due to the volume of submissions received, we cannot guarantee that artwork will be returned, but we will try!
