PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Summer of 2022!  It’s hard to believe it’s over!  The Class of 2022 celebrated their Graduation, enjoyed their PGE (Post Graduation Event) and suddenly the Class of 2023 Senior signs began to appear all across town, signaling a new year was about to begin.  Thank you to the Class of 2023 Parent reps for coordinating this WHS PTO tradition.  It’s a special feeling for everyone each year to see the senior signs popping up!  As we began Senior celebrations, we also welcomed the Class of 2026 freshman with PTO care packages - “Keep Calm and Welcome to High School!”  We look forward to getting to know our Class of 2026 families!

Over the summer your PTO board has been at work planning the year ahead and meeting and welcoming our new WHS Principal, Meghan Ward.  I can’t say enough about how wonderful she is in one message but I can assure you will be impressed and delighted when you have the opportunity to meet her in person yourself, at Back to School night on September 29th!  We’re so excited to be back in person!

Thank you to all our members and for your continued membership supporting the PTO. Your membership enables us to provide so much for our community.  On August 29th we sponsored our Staff Appreciation Breakfast.  Alongside that and 1st day of school for students on the 30th, we decorated campus with welcome signage and the sound system the PTO donated last year was put into use greeting students with lively music on their first day.  The school year has gotten off to a cheerful start for everyone!  Please remember to renew your membership for the 2022-23 school year.  Your membership and any additional membership donations will make a difference and enable us to continue to make these days so special.

PTO General board meetings will be in person at WHS this year AND shared on Zoom.  We’re looking forward to connecting with everyone in person and continuing to include our members who zoom in to our meetings.  The 1st meeting is this Friday, September 9th at 9am in the WHS Library, room LLC-A2.  Zoom  details are listed  below.

Looking ahead we have so much to look forward to:

  • The Homecoming football game is booked for October 21 and the Pep Band is returning which we are all excited about.  With over 300 fall athletes ready and prepared, we are excited to welcome you all to our games.  Come have a hot dog or burger from the Booster Barn and cheer on your teams.

  • PSAT PREP BOOT CAMP - In a joint effort between the PTO and WPS, Stephanie Morris has collaborated with WHS to offer this useful workshop again later this month.  Please scroll down for full details.

  • Financial Aid Workshop - Randi Green, WHS’s amazing Director of College & Career Counseling, has arranged a college Financial Aid Workshop on September 27th.  Details below.

  • So much more!  Please see our full newsletter!

Finally, As this year's PTO president, I would like to assure you that I am here for you alongside the entire PTO board.  If you would like to get in touch with me with any questions, ideas or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.  Feel free to email me at crizpto@yahoo.com or call/text at 516-581-7474.  I am happy to help and love hearing new ideas!

With Warm Regards,

Christine Harris

WHS PTO President

STAFF APPRECIATION BREAKFAST

Our wonderful WPS teachers and staff kicked off the new school year bright and early on August 29th.  Upon arrival they were greeted by welcome signage, decor and breakfast prepared on site by the Tasty Yolk food truck, all provided by Weston High School PTO.  Many thanks to Jane Hoeffner for helping the morning run smoothly, Tara Graham, Barcello, aka - the Birthday Fairy, for the beautiful signage and to the entire PTO membership for providing this celebratory welcome back to our teachers and staff.

Principal Meghan Ward and Superintendent Barbiero meet and greet teachers and staff at the Staff Appreciation Breakfast.

DISTRICT PODCAST AND NEWSLETTER

Superintendent Wolak has started a Podcast series this year interviewing various members of the WPS staff!  They are good! She also distributes monthly WPS Newsletters which have included an opening from her followed by a summary from each of the school Principals.  You can find both of them here!!!!

FRIENDLY REMINDERS

Please pay class dues via personal check payable to WHS with Your Student’s Class in the memo (for example, “Class of 2023”) and mail to the main office or pay on www.myschoolbucks.com

You likely received an invoice via email and should see an invoice for Class Dues on the myschoolbucks site.

Dues are $40 per year, or you may pay all four years at once.

It is essential to be up to date because the school will not give your student a parking spot if there are missing class dues. Class dues go directly to the class each year to fund spirit days and any class-specific activities the class SGA wants to do.

CLASS NOTES

Your seniors received detailed info about college applications from Randi Green last week.  Randi & the college counseling center is an excellent resource for parents and students.

I hope your seniors have had a great start to the year!

The sophomores are off to a great start!

This first week the students got to know their new principal, Mrs. Meghan Ward, who warmly welcomed them into the building on their first day back! It's wonderful to see the school buzzing back with life, students adjusting to their new schedules and teachers, and reconnecting with their friends after a long summer break. Fall sports are in full swing, and student-athletes can be seen all around the campus during the afternoons in their multiple practices!

The week ended with the Annual Trojan Kickoff! An annual pep rally to begin the year which culminated with the Unity Walk, where all WHS walked together around the track. Both students and WHS staff were encouraged to wear their Blue and Gold to show their school spirit! GO TROJANS!

As your PTO Class Reps, we are excited to serve the Class of 2025 community and look forward to an excellent sophomore year together! Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
