PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello Weston High School PTO Families!

October has arrived, the school year is well underway, and we've all been so busy! We enjoyed our first Back to School Night in person since 2019 last week. For many of us, it was our first one in person at WHS ever! I hope those who were able to attend enjoyed it as much as I did. It was amazing to meet our incredible teachers and visit the classrooms our students spend their days in. It was also so kind of the many student volunteers that night, who gave their time helping families find their way around the building, dashing from classroom to classroom. Thank you to everyone who helped and stopped by at our PTO table and Milestone after. We had a tremendous turnout at Milestone for our parent social following BTSN. It felt so good to see so many familiar faces and meet new families as well! Our PTO board is working on more opportunities for us to connect with one another this year!

Many of our students were able to take advantage of the PSAT Prep Bootcamp courses last month. In fact, there were more sign-ups this year than ever before. Many thanks to our PTO Test Prep Chairperson, Stephanie Morris, and teachers Jessica DiBuono and Chris Sadler, who collaborated and offered this fantastic program again!

A few quick notes:

  • We've changed the publication day for our biweekly Newsletter to Tuesdays, so please look out for The Word on Tuesdays.

  • If you haven't registered as a member of the PTO yet, the membership drive wrapped up on September 30th. However, registration is always open. Newsletters will only be sent to registered members after this issue.

Please sign up today if you want to keep receiving our newsletters        https://westonpspto.membershiptoolkit.com

Again, it was really great to see so many of you in person during BTSN and at our social. I enjoyed visiting Weston High School and especially enjoyed seeing you all too! Looking forward to seeing everyone again, in person or virtually at our next PTO General Board Meeting on Friday, October 14th. Until then, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas. Feel free to email me at crizpto@yahoo.com or call/text me at 516-581-7474. I am happy to help and would love to hear from you.

With Warm Regards,

Christine Harris

WHS PTO President

UPCOMING SPEAKER: RANDI GREEN

Mark your calendars! We are incredibly excited to welcome guest speaker, Weston High School Career Counselor Randi Green. Please plan to attend or view our next General Board Meeting on October 14th.

The WHS PTO appreciates the participation of our families in the many fundraising events and activities we organize each year.  Through your generous contributions, the PTO is able to achieve its mission to enhance the educational experience of the Weston high school student through investment in teacher and staff development, curriculum extensions, learning and study space upgrades as well as performing and visual art support and athletic program improvements.

Below are a few examples of amazing projects the PTO has been able to achieve over the years thanks to your generosity!

Most recently we were able to provide enhancements to the Art Department, providing upgraded drafting tables.  If you were at Back To School Night last week, you may have seen them.  If not, here is a photo with Gina Arena from our Art Department showing off the new drafting tables.  Thank you to our entire PTO community!

GOOD READS

In our last PTO General Meeting and at last week's SPED meeting, Superintendent Lisa Babiero shared, and highly recommended, a book that the entire WPS team is reading:

What Happened to You?: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing. by Dr. Bruce D. Perry and Oprah Winfrey.

Lisa discussed how the book highlights the importance of viewing situations through an empathic lens, and described it as a deeply meaningful and insightful read for us all.

A huge big thanks to the volunteer students who guided us all through the hallways and helped us get to "our classes" on time! Thank you to the school for organizing such a great evening and to the teachers for sharing their passion for teaching.
