A Letter from the President's Desk

Dear WHS PTO members,

With Thanksgiving just around the corner and JFK’s wise words on my mind, I want to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thanks to each of you for your being part of our organization.  Whether you are a veteran volunteer or a new to Weston parent, your participation in our PTO is important and appreciated.  I hope that you have found our newsletter and other correspondences, as well as our meetings and programs, educational and helpful so far this year.  If you are interested in becoming more involved, have a suggestion as to how we can be a more effective organization or just want to share a word of encouragement, please do not hesitate to send me an email.  Perhaps there is someone at the Weston High School or in the District that is making a positive difference in your family’s life.  Take this time to send him or her an email of thanks.

I want to give a special shout out to Board members Kerri Steele Rubin and Patricia Manea for their work on our Election Day Bake Sale! Located just inside the entrance to the Middle School polls, Kerri and Patricia were there all day, selling delicious baked goods made for you by some very generous PTO parent volunteers. Please join me in thanking these ladies!

Wishing you a relaxing and well deserved Thanksgiving school break.  I hope you are surrounded by family and friends next Thursday and get your fill of turkey and pie - preferably Grandma Miller’s:) !

With warm regards,

Anne Troxell

Volunteers Needed/News on Pies

Thanks to everyone's amazing support, we sold 280 pies this year!!! The pies will be ready for pick up on Saturday, November 23rd -  I will send out an email early next week with all the details.

I need 2 or 3 people with a large SUV or truck to help me transport the pies from Grandma Miller's drop off location in Westport at 8:00 am on the 23rd to my house on Joanne Lane.

It won't take long and I will bring coffee!!! Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks so much!

PTO Member Spotlight on...Ali Melito

Where are you from? I am from Oceanside, NY (the south shore of Long Island).

How many children do you have and what are their ages? My twins, Tyler & Halley are 19, Sophomores at Syracuse & Univ. of Texas, Austin and my youngest, Emily is 15, a Sophomore at WHS.

When did you come to Weston and why? We moved to Weston in June of 1998 (21 years ago) before we had children. The thing that attracted us to Weston was the great school system.

Can you tell us a little known fact about you? A little known fact about me is that my family and I have traveled to and went to a baseball game in all 30 MLB stadiums

What is your current PTO position? I am currently a grade chair for the Class of 2022.  After holding the same position for my older children, I circled back around for my younger daughter's class.

Why did you volunteer with the PTO? I choose to volunteer with the PTO for several reasons. I feel this organization is filled with dedicated people who want to improve the quality of our children's HS experience, just as I do. It is also a great way to know what is going on at school, especially in the HS where there is little parent involvement. The grade chair position also allows me to interact with the students in the grade, especially in their Senior year. It is amazing to see these smart, confident young adults as they are finishing HS, many of whom I met 18 years earlier when they started kindergarten....Time flies!
