Coming Up (WHS Calendar)
Events occur at WHS, unless otherwise noted. A Letter from the President's DeskDear WHS PTO Member, If you are like me, you are probably happy that midterms are over and have used this past weekend to regroup and reorganize for the quarter ahead. Before we turn our attention to the second half of the year, I want to take a minute to highlight two PTO events from the month of January. At the beginning of the month, we held a well attended General PTO meeting. Check out our Philanthropy Chair’s note below about the funds approved that day to build up the students’ spirits during this stressful time. Those who attended our meeting gained some valuable information from the Head of WHS’s College and Career, Center Randi Green about the age appropriate actions parents should be helping their kids focus on in high school, with regard to the college process. Mid month, the PTO co-hosted an evening budget event with the PTOs of the other three schools in the district. All of the heavy hitters in the District including the high level administrators from Central Office and all four Principals came out to present the highlights of the 2020-21 school budget and to answer questions from the audience. If you missed this event, you are in luck! Superintendent McKersie arranged to have the meeting videotaped. You can view the meeting by clicking HERE. Looking forward, there is a lot going on behind the scenes of the PTO. Heather McNulty and Amy Cohen, our Staff Appreciation chairs, are busy planning a Valentine special for our teachers and administrators to show them some love. If you like to bake or want to help them out, please reach out to them. The Weston Budget talks will continue into this month. To stay up to date, go to the district website www.westonps.org. On the fundraising front, Debbie Morvillo, our Standardized Test Prep Chair, is busy planning the next round of ACT and SAT prep classes and our Memorial Day Road Race Chairs, Maggie Kins, Alison Nevit and Bradie Paul are revving their organizational and creative engines to run another successful fundraiser. As always, the PTO welcomes anyone interested in helping out. The Road Race is a huge endeavor and is critical to the PTO with regard to its ability to fund much needed programs and equipment at the high school. If you have a business or work for a company that donates to local not for profits, please consider making a donation. There are various sponsorship levels that Maggie, Alison and Bradie will be sharing with you in the weeks to come, along with other ways to get involved! Have a great week! Warmly, Anne Troxell, Your PTO President Valentine's Day Treats for WHS Teachers & StaffOn February 12th, we would like to honor the hard working staff at WHS with a Valentine’s Day treat buffet. We need your help baking fun treats and someone to arrange the food in the teacher’s lounge. It’s the first year we’ve done this and thought a mid-year surprise would be a nice reminder to them of how much they mean to us and our kids! Thanks for your help! Memorial Day 5K Race, Walk, and Kids Fun RunThe 27th Annual Weston Memorial Day 5K Race, Walk and Kids Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd, 2020!! PhilanthropyOn Tuesday January 14th, the WHS PTO Spirit Committee hosted a "Good Luck on Midterms" breakfast for all of our high school students. Hot cocoa and donut munchkins were the highlights and it brought a smile to the faces of our kids!!! The funds were approved at the January 10th General PTO Board meeting. Pictures below. Questions?
