A Letter from the President's Desk

Dear WHS PTO members,

I hope you all are enjoying this spectacular early fall weather! September is always a busy month for the PTO, as the chairs of the various committees lay the groundwork for the year. Here are some highlights of the work that’s being done by your board:

Our membership is growing! Membership chair Catherine Revzon has been putting her energy into reaching the PTOs goal of 100% family membership. We are currently at 70% plus and are now making a push to close the gap. If you know of someone who is not yet a member, please encourage them to sign up for their complimentary membership so that they don’t miss out on important communication from the PTO. We will have a sign up table at Back to School Night.

Get togethers abounded this month! New Parent Liaison Casey Saussy put on a fun get together last Friday night for WHS parents who are new to town. It was a great opportunity for them to meet Principal Wolak and some of our Board members and to make connections with each other. Both the Senior and Junior Class Parent Reps arranged parent gatherings at local PTO parent owned eateries (The Whelk and Milestone) to build community among parents in their respective grades and help line the coffers of the class for funding of student specials.

Online Bake Sale Fundraiser Chair Debbie Sollinger (our Pie lady) has launched one of our key fall fundraisers. We are proud to announce that we are partnering with the WHS Student Government (“SGA”) on this sale. Please support this event by buying a pie or other baked good for yourself and selling one to a neighbor or friend. You won’t regret it! Not only will you be helping the SGA and the PTO, but you will get to enjoy something delicious from Grandma Miller’s Vermont bakery! Ordering information can be found below.

Test Prep Chair Debbie Morvillo sold out our PSAT prep course fundraiser that she organized for us. Keep a look out for information regarding future PTO organized test prep courses for the SAT and ACT. These courses are held at WHS and are an excellent value.

Our PTO Spirit Committee has been busy working with the school and the SGA to step up Homecoming week. This year, Homecoming Floats will be making a comeback at WHS! In addition, the PTO is putting together a Food and Funk spirit week kick off event. Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 20th and stay tuned for more details.

Communications Chair Amy Jansen has created a new monthly supplement to our newsletter called Around Town. This supplement is the WHS PTO’s chance to support our fellow community not for profits by sharing their upcoming town events and fundraisers (at their request). If you missed it last Friday, click HERE to view.

Our next General meeting is Friday, November 1st and our program will be on the topic of vaping. I hope to see you there!

As always, if you would like to get more involved in the PTO, have questions, comments, concerns or compliments about what the PTO board is doing on behalf of the membership, feel free to contact me.

Warm regards,

Anne Troxell
WHS PTO President

PTO Volunteer Corner:  WE NEED YOU!

The PTO is looking for a creative parent who has a background in marketing and promotion to assist with the promotion of our fall fundraisers. This job does not require meetings and can be done on your own time frame. If interested in more information, please contact Anne Troxell, president, at TroxelAnne@me.com.

Philanthropy

Over the last 7 years, the WHS PTO has donated almost $290,000 to our school!  We have made our greatest contributions to the following:  the recent renovation of the College Counseling Center, the enhancement of the Library/LLC and related work/study area, the Stadium Lights and Pixelot Camera (NHSN), CASE Study Room for Academics, Science Lab, Art Tables and Engraver, Technology, Band Instruments, and Auditorium Lighting.

The PTO continues to focus on areas which will benefit as many students as possible.  We are proud of the work we have done to raise funds to donate to the school  to enhance the educational experience for our children.

Parking & Security at WHS

When visiting WHS please remember to bring your driver's license for identification. Security will scan your license and issue you a visitor badge. The badge must be worn at all times while in the building and returned to security when you leave.

Visitor parking is on the street opposite the Main Entrance and on the access road between WIS and WHS (stadium field side only). Please refrain from parking in any parking lot or numbered space. These spaces are reserved and have been assigned to students and staff members. An empty space in a parking lot does not mean it’s an available space.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
